Chuck Isbell — Smyrna & La Vergne resident for over 29 years
Why I'm Running
I'm Chuck Isbell — a 29-year Rutherford County resident, father, grandfather, tradesperson, and neighbor. I'm running for the Zone 1 School Board seat because I believe our children deserve leaders who show up, do the hard work, and put families first every time.
"I have been part of this community for nearly three decades. I know these schools, these streets, and these families — and I am ready to serve."
My family is at the center of everything I do. I am the father of David, Maggie, and Nate, who passed away in 2020 after being struck by a distracted driver. Losing Nate shaped my commitment to safer roads and safer schools in ways no policy document ever could. That grief became action: I joined Families for Safe Streets and fought alongside parents to restore school bus service that had been taken away to cut costs. We won that fight — and I will keep fighting.
I am also blessed with two wonderful grandchildren, Lilly and Noelle, and I attend Hope Fellowship Church in Smyrna. My family roots in Tennessee run deep, tracing back to the First Families of the State.
Professionally, I work days as a Site Supervisor in Gallatin and evenings as an HVAC Instructor at a Nashville trade school. I know the value of hands-on learning and real-world preparation. I serve as Treasurer for the La Vergne Housing Authority Committee and on the La Vergne Parks & Recreation Advisory Board — because public service isn't something I do in election years. It's who I am.
Our district is making progress. My goal is to build on that progress with steady, accountable leadership — keeping our schools safe, our students supported, and our community informed every step of the way.
What I Stand For
Six clear commitments to the students, families, teachers, and staff of Rutherford County Zone 1.
Safe, Prepared Schools
Every child deserves to feel safe at school. I will ensure our School Resource Officers are central to staff training, emergency preparedness drills, and building relationships with students — strengthening safety at no additional cost to taxpayers.
Student Transportation & Access
I fought to end the "Parental Responsibility Zone" policy that stripped bus service from students to save money — and I won. Every student deserves reliable, safe transportation to and from school, full stop.
Responsible Budgeting
Smart fiscal decisions mean protecting programs that serve kids — not cutting them to balance a spreadsheet. I will scrutinize every budget line with the same care I bring to managing my own household and professional responsibilities.
Supporting Teachers & Staff
Our teachers, bus drivers, and school staff are the backbone of this district. I will advocate for competitive pay, manageable workloads, and an environment where good people want to stay and build careers.
Career & Technical Education
As an HVAC instructor, I see every day how vocational training changes lives. I will champion strong CTE programs so every student — whether headed to college or straight into a career — leaves our schools prepared for the real world.
Open Community Communication
Parents and neighbors deserve to know what's happening in their schools. I will push for clear, consistent communication from the board — town halls, public updates, and an open door for every family who has a question or concern.
